The last thing I would wish

IMG_1406 - lucky

The last thing I would wish right now
For anyone to catch me doing
Here at the far reach of the cricket field
Beyond the white boundary
Close by the shady wall of the allotments
Is hugging this tree

There is wood and there is warmth
In the trunk of a tree
There is body and there is texture
And where your chest
Moulds snug against its contours
You might swear it has a heart

If you're ever distressed, she said
Hug a tree, it may help
And though barely distressed
(More like numb, to be frank) I must say
It does, strangely
