That I did snap

That I did snap at you
My beautiful, eyelashed boy
Was a crime
And Nature groaned

Your chocolate-button eyes
So deep and pensive
Gazing for a moment into middle space
But guarded too

What did I teach you then?
That reaching out a curious finger
May for unknown reasons
Trigger a big person's anger

For I was fiddling, frustrated
With a recalcitrant remote
When instinct told you:
Touch here! Touch now!

Then from his den
Mad Dad leapt out and snarled
But you did wait him out
And he did slink away

And I did wish him gone for good
That Nature’s son may always
Touch and probe and push for more
My beautiful, eyelashed boy
