If you haven’t had one or two enemies in your day then you haven’t lived. You don’t have to be a mafioso, though it probably helps. And if you do have a reckoning in mind, be it a whack or a custard pie or a sly campaign of reputational subversion, then you’re better off having your wits about you. Revenge, dish, cold.

On the other hand, if it’s just not practical to bring about some kind of an outcome, if your oppressor holds all the cards, then hating may be a consolation — albeit a destructive one, to self and society.
