A haircut

Acrid green smell along stretches of the trail today where brambles and nettles have been sheared back into the verge.

Usual sluggish ride home. The air cool, the ground puddled by afternoon showers.

Relieved to hear then see the gull fledgling on the spine of the roof. One of its parents preening atop a nearby chimney pot.

During the day

a haircut, suddenly

so grown up
