Street party

More home improvement in the morning — mesh over window glass against which N and I are wont to clamber. Turned on BBC TV web transmission of the royal wedding, “for the kids.”

Immaculately staged. Tradition and solemnity. Nuptials as moving as any. An aura of national occasion.

During the afternoon a street party in the neighbouring cul-de-sac. Food and drink and cheerful banter. Jiejie running wild with new friends and hippy dancing to 1980s disco music. Didi sometimes following, more often solitary treat-seeking among the trestle tables or happy with a collection of toy trucks in the gutter.
