The riverside parks have moved into the next phase of colour like a slow-motion firework display. Crocuses now history, daffodils switching off one by one, magnolia petals sodden on the turf and paths. In their place: branches floating on fluffy white blossoms. An early clump of bluebells. And deciduous leaves beginning to show, a pointillist multitude of green.
Up close the new-born leaves dangle limp and wrinkled from the bud.
