A right old downpour today. Morning, afternoon, evening. In the cool of late afternoon it was good to take a breather on the kitchen balcony, barefoot and wearing only shorts. Rain hammering off the corrugated steel awnings of all the other backdoor balconies crammed into that armswidth gap between the houses.
You watch multicolour umbrellas cluster at the crossing then crowd across the main road, merging for a few chaotic moments with the opposing crowd. Scooter riders wrapped and triple-wrapped in plastic and rubber — never enough to stop the water dampening socks and trickling through to the collar-bone.
The sky heavy
Like a waterlogged blanket
